what we’re doing
Public Power St. Pete is a grassroots campaign working to give residents a greater voice in the future of our city’s electric system.
We’re organizing a petition drive for a 2028 ballot initiative that would place a charter amendment before voters to create a municipal electric utility for St. Pete.
A publicly owned utility would be operated for the benefit of residents instead of private shareholders, creating the opportunity for greater local accountability, transparency, long-term affordability, and community-focused energy planning.
Our goal is to give St. Pete residents a direct voice in shaping the future of our energy system.
what is the campaign
Public Power St. Pete is organized as a political committee under Florida law to support a city-wide ballot initiative focused on public power.
In Florida, political committees are a common way for community campaigns and grassroots organizations to raise funds, organize volunteers, communicate with voters, and support ballot initiatives. The committee structure allows residents to work together transparently and collectively around a shared public issue.
Our campaign is focused on educating the public, collecting petition signatures, and building community support for a more affordable, accountable, and locally controlled energy future for St. Pete.
